One of the basic, most widely known and understood ethical principles doctors must adhere to is to do no harm. When you refuse a patient care and medical treatment, or set them up on medications that you have no intent on managing or even tapering, or when your actions cause that patient to not get medical assistance elsewhere, that is effectively and irrevocably causing them harm.
