My mother was diagnosed with small bowel cancer, Dr. Kelly stated that post surgery that the margins were good and she needed no further treatment. That was in fact not true, when we desired further treatment options out of the area he did not attend tumor boards that he had been invited to. Each appointment he stated he would look into a 'chemo pill' but never did, and referred to the same books each visit. As weeks ticked by his office would not work with the Huntsman Institute in providing simple coding instructions in or... read more

Dr. Kelly is an excellent cancer doctor. I have been a patient of Dr. Kelly since June 2017. He has treated my lung cancer with great care and always will answer any questions that I have. My wife and I have been pleased with his service and the service from his staff. All of the staff at the Cancer Center at Carson Tahoe Hospital have been very professional. My Cancer is in remission, but I will continue to see Dr. Kelly to make sure it remains in remission.

My husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer, an endoscopic ultrasound indicated stage 3-4. When we went to see Dr. Kelly it seemed to us he never read my husband's chart and announced, you have stage 2, you're curable, you'll take 2 chemo pills a day and do some radiation. What? I said, the Dr. yesterday told us he is stage 3-4. To which Dr Kelly told me I misunderstood the medical terminology and that I would have to go to school or seminars to understand. I let him know that we had an appointment at UCSF for 2nd opinion, D... read more

My husband’s cancer had progressed to stage 4. Dr Kelly told us a treatment that had been recommended by an out of state cancer center had zero chance of working and would never be approved by insurance, so we chose to treat my husband’s cancer out of state. The treatment was approved by both insurances within two days and the treatment Dr. Kelly said would not work, has been quite successful. My husband would be dead if we had listened to Dr. Kelly. Dr. Kelly appears to be out of date. I would not recommend him.

He seemed a little frenzied and hadn't looked at any of my paper work before meeting me. He struck me as very focused on the study of my case and labs, but not at all interested in me as a person. I was perfectly fine with that. I don't need sugar coating or hand holding. If his focus is on treating my disease without getting to know me, I think his priorities are right. If I had treated cancer patients for decades, I would probably keep emotional distance and be totally focused on beating the disease.

I am very angry. Dr Kelly was very nice and seemed informative if not a little "rushed" when he spoke to us. After three times, he still didn't seem to remember who we were and what our "story" was. He diagnosed a chemo pill to take with radiation. His explanation was "it's a mild form of chemo..no big deal and it would help with radiation". We get the pill in a hazmat box...he told us NONE of the side affects, warnings, anything. We didn't even know it had to be delivered. BAD!!

Dr. Kelly has been treating my mother for non Hodgkins lymphoma. He was our second opinion and we are so glad we went to see him He used less invasive treatments and my mom is almost done with treatment. His staff is very friendly.
