If I could give Dr Pugley 10 stars I would . This man saved my life. I went to Great River Medical center and they said my pain shooting down my back was a pinched nerve and I have arthritis. 3 days later I drive myself 1.5 hours to Iowa city and the ER dr said he could see potential issue in my neck and wanted to release me to make an appointment with orthopedics. Dr. Pugley happen to be in the emergency room viewing another patient when he came across my MRI. He said that we have to do emergency surgery. I had three disc c... read more
Dr. Pugley helped me through two surgeries and is nothing less than amazing. However the nurses leave “much” to be desired at Iowa University Hospital. Been a patient there 3 times and every time I would have been better off at home. At least once each visit it took more than an hour to get my pain meds after they were due. Their bedside manner was atrocious and downright rude at times. I’d have Dr. Pugley any day but I don’t ever want to be a patient there!
Do not go to this guy! I had an L5-S1 fusion surgery with him and he completely screwed it up. He left the vertebrae sitting right on top of the nerves resulting in constant leg pain, did not correct the spondylolisthesis, drilled the screws into the joint instead of the vertebral body ruining the joint, and incorrectly applied the material for the bone fusion resulting in ectopic bone growth into the joint above, ruining my L4 vertebrae (which was perfectly fine before). I had horrible back issues for months after begging for someone to take me seriously I finally lost complete mobility in my right side and control of my bladder. They finally did an MRI and I was rushed to Iowa city and Dr pugley preformed Emergency surgery. This Dr is one of the best Drs I have ever came across.
