I saw Dr. Makkiya for the first and last time in 2018. I went in for abnormal vaginal bleeding and terrible pelvic pain despite being on birth control. I had terrible periods my whole life and I suspected something like endometriosis. But when I went to her, her first question was why I didn't see a gastroenterologist first. I told her I was referred by my PCP and she had her reasons for referring me. She then suggested I needed to LOSE WEIGHT, and told me to get a gym membership. When I told her that wasn't the issue and I ... read more

Dr. Makkiya seems to have no idea what she is speaking about. She completely negated everything I said during the visit and all of my diagnoses from previous doctors. She basically prescribed me an eating disorder by saying to count calories and “that you should feel hungry throughout the day”. She has no patience or warmth at all. I was completely humiliated and felt like a little child.

A nurse gave my daughter Dr. Makkiya's information during an emergency room visit. She called and scheduled an appointment for a PAP and to have a follow-up to her emergency room visit. Dr. Makkiya spent literally five minutes in the exam room with my daughter. I know for a fact that when my daughter was called back to the exam room, I went to my car to wait for her. I sat in my car, closed my door, and my daughter was opening the passenger's door. I thought something was wrong; she told me that the doctor asked if she was s... read more

When asked to list my symptoms she lectured me about how I couldn't possibly be feeling so many different things at once or over a short time- despite having various disorders (pcos, fibro) She completely disregarded everything everything tried to say, rushed my appointment, and finally after feeling like a child being scolded I started to cry. Not proud of it- but I came for help and was degraded. She accused me of crying bc I was afraid of the pelvic exam- which I've done plenty of times. No, you've just been so awful! Aft... read more

I went against my instincts and booked an appointment with Medstar despite the negative rep they have. This specific OB is far from helpful. I was prescribed medication that made my symptoms worsen. When I asked for suggestions she just brushed me off. The most messed up part about this provider is her inability to hear patients out. I asked for certain things and she disregarded. I have now transferred to a different facility where I’m actually listened to and feel comfortable with taking direction from them. I do not recom... read more

Dr. Makkiya is not patient and didn’t seem to hear my concerns. What she did do was change my antidepressant medication and put me on birth control. (I followed these recommendations despite my instincts and regretted it.) I went to a different doctor a few months later and switched back to my previous medication and felt like myself again.
