Highly regarded as Galena's oldest and most historic building, the Downing House is a famous tourist attraction in Galena, Illinois. Constructed largely using limestone in 1826-27 by John Dowling, this single-pen style building served as a trading post, along with Dowling's living quarters. I have greatly enjoyed my visits here in the past when I was here this past weekend though it was closed
