The Disneyland Railroad opened on July 17, 1955, the same day Disneyland opened. The railroad circles much of the park and was designed to give visitors both transportation and a sightseeing experience. Walt Disney drew inspiration from the miniature railroad he built in his own backyard, known as the Carolwood Pacific Railroad.
