Established in 1941. In 1941, Travis Dickey opened the first Dickey's Barbecue Pit in Dallas, Texas. Funds were so tight, he couldn't afford his own sign-- he had to rent space on either side of the Dickey's sign to Dr. Pepper! A lot of hard work and long nights sweating over a hot hickory wood pit paid off, and when Travis' 2 sons Roland and T.D. took over, the business was up and running at full capacity.
