3 stars because it’s first time I’m dissatisfied with quality and execution. Service is nice and worth 20% tip reward. What went wrong? Saturday, Sep 5th. Brunch. We ordered 2 plates of eggs Benedict. So we received 2 identical plates where both dishes were equally awful: runny whites in the eggs, boiled bacon (not crispy fried, it was boiled and pale and unappetizing), 5 half-pieces of potatos (shrinkages), runny sauce that I thought was just water from eggs, yellow rucola in the salad and sadly my yolk wasn’t bright orange... read more

DERU in Kirkland is a unique neighborhood restaurant that has built a strong following for its fresh ingredients, creative menu, and generous portions. The food is clearly the star with plenty of healthy and flavorful options to try from, and oversized desserts to enjoy. Service is the most inconsistent part of the experience, with the engagement process being impersonal, and attentiveness being slow during busy hours. Admittedly ... the food is consistently good. In fact, VERY good. The staff is always busy - but seemingly rarely concerned about the customer. They have one customer-facing objective - tell the customer to shut up and use the self-service webpage (so they do nothing except deliver food and collect a 20% tip). The atmosphere is great if you love breathing exhaust fumes. Today's rare delight was a Ford Raptor with a HUGE V8 spewing exhaust over everyone. Lovely prelide to being treated like dirt.
