Derek Chiu is a fantastic piano educator. His dual life as a performing artist and a teacher allows him to bring a unique level of expertise to his studio. He holds his students to very high standards, ensuring they aren’t just "playing" piano, but truly understanding the theory and artistry behind it. My son has never been more encouraged or motivated. He treats Derek as a role model and has developed a deep respect for the craft under his tutelage. An exceptional studio for any serious student.
We have been studying with Derek for over a year, and the experience has been outstanding. His studio is a high-end, professional setting, and we especially appreciate the use of his full size Steinway grand piano during classes. As an active performer, Derek brings a high level of expertise and maintains strong standards for his students. Derek focuses not only on RCM pieces or exam preparation, but also on the long-term musical development of each student, with great attention to detail and growth.
