To date, Derek Chiu has been the best piano teacher I have ever had. I first met him in 2023 when he was adjudicating at my local music festival, and in 2025 I officially became his student. From the first meeting, really connected with his personable nature and his realistic views on life as a musician, and my skills as a pianist have greatly improved thanks to him. I have taken lessons with Derek Chiu for two years, and will be starting a third year. Derek is a very exceptional musician and educator. With my time with him, I grew in artistry and in technical ability in amounts that surprised me very much.
