First off I want to say this place is a gem, a treasure for Iowa City and the Longfellow historic district. But I get it when some people say they are turned off by the atmosphere which seems a bit snobbish and elite. This morning we went for a coffee and pastry and the bar server was borderline surly in filling our coffee order. And my quiche was only partially warmed (cold inside). An unexpectedly pleasant experience. I have also used their specialty cake service and was very impressed
The fruit danish is my go to- and a mocha - and a ham and cheese sandwich some days for lunch. Why go to the grocery? Also, the chocolate raspberry cake and the fruit tartes are divine and will be a guaranteed hit at any gathering you bring them to.
