Update: I tried to kill myself while an inpatient at Deakin Hospital. I ended up with a severely broken arm, deep lacerations and spinal injury. On the night I tried to end it, TCH kept calling Deakin to find out what meds I was on. The whole time (at least 5 hours) the line was engaged. It turns out that Don (a staff member) was using the hospital phone for a social call. My partner found out because he drove to the hospital to get the information. Recently had the pleasure of stumbling across this facility and what a difference it has made to me. Tracy at the reception is the most accommodating and caring person, such a lovely face to see when coming through those doors. The nursing staff: special shout out to Shristi, Donald, Bec, Nazam, Darran, Beth, Meg, Brigette and Kat with so many more you made my stay special and safe. My sister was a patient here for a few weeks and she had some very severe serious family problems being treated and she would call me often to come in and sit with her as she wasn’t feeling safe. I didn’t realise that it was run by minimal staff and not much therapy - extremely frustrating having to leave her when she felt so unsafe. She didn’t have a dog and I think that’s why people have them to keep guard. The chef is good I did get to enjoy a meal. Recently went to visit a friend being treated here and the facility looked on - fairly new. Lots of animals inside and dog poo everywhere out in the courtyards. As patients have care dogs. I found it has no security so people were freely walking in and out. I noticed a man pretty young 20’s in the kitchen arguing with another woman it looked like they were about to fight and no nurses or doctors were even seen around. Those patients started yelling and carrying on and still no nurses or doctor. They need security. My friend ... read more
The nurses are horrible, they have mixed up medicines and are just very lazy. As it is a very quiet hospital so they could get off their chair once and while and just talk to the patients and show some actual empathy.
