I’ve built 4 custom homes and always had to deal with an outside company for custom home plans. DC Custom Homes has it all from the best engineered house planners to amazing home. We dealt with Kate Hendrix designing our plans and she made it very streamlined and the communication was 2nd to none. I’m glad we found a 1 stop shop with DC Custom Homes on our final build!!
I wish we could go back in time and avoid working with Cody Skoda and Don Merchant at DC Texas. We were excited to move into our new home, only to deal with water leaks from windows, doors, and the ceiling, as well as plumbing issues. The communication throughout the process was lacking and things that we were told would be done weren't, or were done differently than agreed upon. I would give 0 stars if it was an option.
I would not recommend Cody Skoda or Don Merchant of DC Texas Custom Homes. DC Texas did not pay the subs they hired, and we now have subcontractors attempting to file liens. We have multiple water leaks, walls that are not plumb, windows that are not sealed, various drywall and texture issues, an AC vent that was intended for a stairwell hanging several feet above the stairwell ceiling cooling the attic instead, amongst many other problems such as patio concrete ruined by oil and mortar that has not come off with pressure wa... read more
Overall, most of the contractors did a good job. Make sure anything said between you and Cody or anyone else is in writing. If not you'll tell them something you need, they'll say, "we can do that" and it doesn't get done. Took two months to have our interior painted by a hack two man crew. They could have probably found a different company, but they didn't. Cost us some points on the mortgage from this delay. Should have taken 3 weeks tops, but I digress.
