I first met Jon Day in 2013, when he designed and fabricated screen windows for the Steel House at Connecticut College, a modernist gem from the 1930s. Last year we undertook a gut renovation of the main bathroom in our 1838 house in the Mystic historic district. The room was carved out of some space at the top of the stairway on the second floor. It wasn’t large and there was no way to expand it, so we were forced to glean every particle of space possible through design and engineering to make a comfortable and beautiful room. I was a little nervous about having my parents house repaired and painted as I had never been involved in a project of this size before and the house has a lot of meaning to me as it's where I grew up.
