My fiancé and I spend toooo much time at the Co-op...we go in for three items and come out with 20. = : > )
I spent 20 years in Davis, first as a student and then as a mom of three. I always knew I could count on the Davis Food Co-op for good fresh local food, but there was also a deeper connection. It was MY store... I was a shareholder. I knew my opinion mattered. It's been wonderful, watching the store grow and bloom and strengthen with the years... it's always my first stop in town whenever I come through, and I am always happily surprised by the improvements and changes. Long live the DFC!
I wish I could say I love my local coop, but I'm always disappointed by overpriced produce that should be locally available ( ie organic figs at $8/lb or wilty yellow bunched arugula for $8), commercial products taking up too much shelf space from multinational corporations, GMOs everywhere, and the most non organic overpriced bulk section I've ever seen in a coop. I like the cashiers and I guess I'd rather shop here than whore foods but honestly, I'm quite underwhelmed. Get it together, Davis food coop.
