We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Dave Henry Lodge. The lodge was everything I had hoped for. It was very clean, tidy, welcoming and was fully stocked with everything we needed for our 2 night stay. The trail in was quite rudimentary, however. It was very muddy and had little to no drainage or maintenance. There were no fallen trees across the trail but the rough/muddy path would make it difficult for anyone getting on in age or with stability issues.
It's not often you get the best of both worlds but with Dave Henry you do: the chance to experience a true unspoiled alpine setting in an authentic log cabin but with excellent amenities for you and your extended family. We hiked up with two other families for a 3-day stay and were bowled over by the size of the cabin and the comfy sleeping area which is partly partitioned. Wow! What an amazing home away from home. I cant even imagine all the work that has gone into creating and maintaining this back country cabin. I'm shocked reading the 2 star review since I went there a week before and my reflections of the cabin were completely the opposite! I saw a cabin that met all the needs of our large group. A fully stocked kitchen with a cast iron pancake griddle! Bonus crocs so I didn't have to tye up my boots all the time. Even slippers for my kid. It's so wonderful to have a remote alpine lodge that's big enough to facilitate a multi family getaway. The outdoor access to lakes and mountain tops provide experiences for those who want to explore as well as those who want to relax. There's a woodfired sauna that is perfectly situated by a deep spot to dunk in the creek, and the kids enjoyed picking huckleberries, crowberries, wintergreen and arctic raspberries. And what a treat to have a propane oven and all the cookware for gourmet meals!
