Wendy's first restaurant opened in Columbus, Ohio in November of 1969. The founder, R. David Thomas, named his new restaurant after his daughter. In 1976, the Davenport family, founders of the Krystal Company, bought the franchise rights from Wendy's for the metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Washington D.C., and St. Louis.
