Ever since the bags were changed from 50 lbs to 40 lbs, the quality of the coal has dropped. The new 40 lb bags arrive wet, and apparently the water is part of the bag's weight. The bags are from 1/4 to 1/2 coal "fines," and unlike the previous product, these fines don't coke and melt together - they simply block the airflow. In burning 3+ tons of these new 40 lb bags, I have found dirty fires that build clinkers quickly and require constant cleaning and tending; these fires produce inconsistent heat with mainly a few hot sp... read more
