Craig’s Hut is famous for being built for the old 80’s movie The Man From Snowy River and is well worth a visit. If you have a 4wd you can drive up right near the Hut otherwise in a 2wd It’s about a 700m walk. This is the third build of the Hut as previous ones burnt down in bushfires over the years. The scenery is amazing at the golden hours.
Absolutely stunning in winter. Only accessible by helicopter or 6+ hours on backcountry ski's from Telephone Box Junction via Stirling summit. We did the latter, and were pleasantly surprised to find the hut stocked with wood and a great fireplace. This is only available in winter months when the roads are closed. Definitely can be slept in overnight, enough level ground, just bring a groundsheet and an insulating mattress as the brick floor is very cold. Absolutely gorgeous sunrise.
