The Crab Shack (and it truly is a shack!) serves up good, plainly cooked seafood, not on a white tablecloth but on oilcloth with plenty of extra utensils to get you cracking, picking and fishing meat out of shells. There is serious seafood-eating going on here, and shellfish fans make a beeline to this spot when the crab craving hits. You choose from seasonal entrees, Smoked Mullet or Salmon if you're not up for the crab cracking effort. Iced tea and beer are the favored options.

My husband and I ordered takeout: Lady asked him what he needed, he told her and then went back about her business. 5 minutes pass and another lady comes up and asks if he needed help, he begins to explain and the first lady yells to the 2nd one what he needed..she told her to be quiet so she can hear him and THEN puts the order in the computer. The Crab Shack on Gandy isn't fine dining, but it's some of the finest seafood you can get in the Tampa Bay area. Let's be clear that by "fine" I mean fresh and awesome. You're not going to find plates stacked high with microgreens or decorated with sauce. What you will find is amazing seafood spread (eat it with the saltines, so good), fresh blue crabs (give yourself at least an hour to go at these babies), and fresh, salty oysters. This is definitely a "shack" but dispite its outside appearence the food here is exteremly good! The crab cakes are melt in your mouth good! The salads are light and crispy. The stew cabbage is to die for. And this is the only place to go to for fresh, tasty seafood!
