My issue with my phone was very vague in that it just randomly shuts off after I dropped it down a flight of stairs. Tech was honest with saying he could open up my phone to take a look at the problem, but it might not be cost effective. He told me what components cost that could be the issue, but was more than willing to let me simply decline for the sake of price.
