The Courtland was a wonderful find for me, which started when I walked in the door and was greeted by Frank, who owns and runs the hotel with his wife. The hospitality is first-rate, and the place is full of charm: a 1906 former railroad hotel nicely remodeled, very clean, and wonderfully located in the historic downtown, with lots of restaurants within easy walking distance. We stayed at The Courtland Hotel & Spa in Fort Scott, KS on February 14th, 2026, and had a wonderful experience. Frank personally greeted us upon arrival, which immediately made the stay feel warm and welcoming. He even gave us the “nickel tour,” sharing a bit of the hotel’s charm and character along the way. We stayed in Room 15 with a King bed, and my partner and I really appreciated the extra space. The room was comfortable and exactly what we needed for a relaxing overnight stay. This historic hotel is in the heart of downtown Fort Scott, close to everything we did while here briefly for the weekend. The rooms are on 2nd floor, no elevators here, but it's old-time charm is wonderful. Cheryl, the owner, and her daughter were so kind and friendly, made us feel right at home. The room was clean and spacious, even the bathroom was nice sized. Room 1 is in the Southeast corner of the building, near the sign, but I was pleased with it. It was comfortable and cozy.
