DISCLAIMER: The owner is a childhood friend of mine. Our Subaru had an intermittent problem of what sounded and felt like something skipping in the drive train. My regular mechanic and a local (Waterloo) transmission shop had both given up on the problem after a combined 3 months. In desperation I did a bit more research myself and found some YouTube videos describing the problem (cooked "viscous coupler" in the center differential) and a demonstration of the solution.
