Now that I’m addicted to the Marzipan cake at Lutz bakery I hesitate to extoll its virtues lest they run out of it during my next visit. Suffice to say it is The Best Cake period. I love the marzipan fondant in lieu of icing. So many layers, so many flavors. I wish you had a store near me in Raleigh NC, although I did gain 2 lbs after 3 trips! I would add pics, but I ate them!
Disclaimer: I walked in and didn't wind up staying. The entire place is gloomy and the pastries look sad and not that appetizing. It's nothing like a European bakery, where the pastries are freshly baked every day -- appealing to the eye and as delicious as they look. Apparently, there is no restroom even for sit-down paying customers, not that I would want to sit down in a place that's anything but inviting. Insanely expensive, not appealing, dark and gloomy, no restroom for customers. I'll pass.
Pastry was burnt on the bottom and really dry and hard. Their food has a strange processed flavor like little debbie snacks or something.
The best place for specialty birthday cake. Been going for years. Today I stopped in for some fruit tarts. Excellent. They have delicious coffee as well.
