Coney Island is great what can be much better if they fix the boardwalk

Classic Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk—still the heart of Brooklyn summers! Walked the full stretch from Stillwell Ave down toward Brighton on a crisp early 2026 day, and it's holding up well: the boardwalk planks are in good shape overall (well-maintained by NYC Parks, no major tripping hazards or rot spots I noticed), sand is wide and mostly clean (some litter near high-traffic areas, but crews seem to stay on top of it), and the ocean views with the rides in the background never get old.

Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk is the ultimate NYC summer spot! The beach is wide, sandy, and perfect for lounging, swimming, or just soaking up the sun. The boardwalk itself is iconic—wooden planks, the smell of fried dough and hot dogs, Nathan's right there, and that endless ocean view. People-watching is unreal: families, street performers, cyclists, everyone having a blast. The Polar Bear Plunge which happens every January 1st is fantastic. And there's not a better place for it than the Coney Island Boardwalk and the beach there. Not only do they have a plunge into the water but they have DJ's very good ones who are playing music on the boardwalk. And there are large numbers of people dancing. It was just so much fun. Even though the temperature was 25 degrees and the wind was 25 mph. This is the happening place every New Year's day!
