I’m extremely disappointed that the developer of 1900 Reston Metro Plaza chose such a large reflective-glass facade without enough consideration for bird safety. The glass reflects the sky and surrounding environment so convincingly that birds can mistake it for open air. My friend has seen a Tennessee Warbler fly directly into the building and die. I live a short walk from Comstock’s downtown Herndon property. For ~10 years this prominent block has remained a vacant field and fencing instead of becoming the housing, shops, public space, and arts venue the community was promised. Herndon selected Comstock for the project in 2016 and transferred the nearly five-acre site to it in 2020. Comstock announced in December 2024 that it would not build the project.
