I wanted to see the stars and luckily this place was an hour away from home. Such a cool experience!!! There were staff teaching us about the planets, star names, and constellations. There were telecopes set to certain ones like Orion, Pleiades, Jupiter and Uranus. It was a very nice night and so cool that it is a free event. Picture below is a bright Jupiter, just from my phone!
I went my first time tonight with a friend who has been many times before. What a treasure! This appears to be on the college campus but is unaffiliated. It was explained that it was a Rotary Club project that was wildly successful, is in its 20th year, and is staffed entirely by volunteers. We were able to look at nebulas, star clusters and planets through positioned telescopes, as well as see imagery, on a monitor, as it was being gathered by a really high-powered scope. Always an amazing experience to be able to use large publicly accessible telescopes, and have knowledgeable docents there to tell you anything you want to know. The sky observation amphitheater is wonderful, just keep in mind it gets cold.
