Really? – Not sure what is going on there. Is it really a COMMUNITY center? I grew up in the community and some kid treated me like I was was from "the 'couv".. I went there to buy a bike that was outside. Apparently "outside" bikes are only for sale without a test ride. Portland is the most bike savvy town in the country..do you know anyone who would ride a bike without testing it here? Liability is the excuse. The Comm Center will not sell you a bike that they recieved in donation and let you test ride it. REALLY? I'm thin... read more
Community environment, second hand selection – Has some parts bins for used parts and a dozen or so used bikes for sale. the prices are definitely the best part of this place, and I feel good about supporting a co-op that provides bikes for kids like CCC does. I always check here when I need a used part and their staff is always helpful in answering any questions i have.
Do Good with Dollars – A great experience. Helpful staff made me feel comfortable, even though I'm not a "bicyclist". I bought a (used) part and the mechanic gave me a couple of pointers and I fixed my bike using the bike stand and tools that are for the "community" to use. I will definitely give them my business cuz they also have great programs for low-income kids helping them get bikes. Plus they recycle a ton. Oh, and there's a great volunteer program. And they have clases. Totally cool org ( they ran the Yellow Bikes pr... read more
Spotty – Wow, I have been here a few times in the past years and "spotty" would be best to describe the temper and skill of the Employees who work here. This last time I was belittled for asking questions and not knowing the answer to them. Other times I have felt welcome and appreciated, but mostly this is simply not the case. Go somewhere else (which has been around for longer) and thus has more consistent skill and professionalism.
Helping kids learn to ride. – In Short More than just a place where kids can learn about bikes, the Community Cycling Center is a valuable resource for children and families. Offering basic maintenance classes plus sales and service, CCC gives children some of the tools they need to succeed by introducing young people to cycling as exercise and boosting kids' confidence on and off the bike. With over 150 members and over 100 volunteers, CCC brings kids and community together.
Wonderful Experience! – With a flat tire I went past the shop after closing hours. I went inside the store where a bike repair class was taking place. Even though the store was closed a staff member came up to me to ask what I needed help with. I showed him my tire and right away he found the right size tube to fix my problem. Staff was very helpful and friendly! Staff showed that he cared enough to take time out of his class to help a person in need. Staff at Community Cycling Center really do know the meaning of community.
