I tried to book through the app, but it wouldn't let me sign in, so I called Choice Hotels, and they told me there were problems with the app. Fine. So I booked the room, and explained I need 4 nights, but may only stay 2 or 3 because this was a work trip and I may not be needed for all 4 days, so I want to be sure I am not charged for nights that I don't stay. Upon check in, the room smelled VERY HEAVILY of smoke and cigarettes and the smoke detector was clearly ripped out of the wall. When I informed the front desk of this I was told he “broke the smoke detector and took it down” and there was no one smoking in the room. I told him my asthma is triggered by smoke / second hand smoke so I needed the room to either be cleaned or switched. He told me there was nothing he could do as the hotel was fully booked.
