This is not a quiet, fancy hotel. It's a tiny, old, worn, noisome and noisy building inserted into the busiest street in Melbourne. Why you'll stay: it's cheap, private, super convenient and close to Town Hall. Expect that there might be a homeless person sleeping nearby or a busker or some loud shouty or drunk central city shenanigans. There's also great coffee, food, galleries and arcades right outside. You've saved $100 or more on the usual accommodation costs so you can put this back into the local economy. It's safe and... read more

This was one of the dirtiest and most poorly maintained accommodations I have ever stayed in. The room was clearly not cleaned before my arrival. Check-in was smooth, and the gentleman at reception was unfriendly. He told us that check-out was at 10:00 am, which was helpful, but the parking instructions could have been much clearer. He handed us a parking ticket and simply said to use it when exiting the car park. What wasn't explained was that the ticket is only valid for overni... read more

I have just read all recent reviews and might sound like a smart arse, however...... I have not stayed at the City Square for around 6 years when I visited and stayed frequently whenever I visited Melbourne from Queensland. I requested and got a single bed room on 6th floor and got in slightly earlier which I requested. The room has certainly aged and is not perfect. However, the bed is comfortable, aircon works and shower works great. It has gone down on Cost BUT this does not represent what others have stated re being a Sl... read more
