Not very helpful, I would NOT recommend. The Coach doesn’t really give any in depth info or professional training. Not to mention you’re in some guy’s garage at his house, which seems unsafe and is definitely NOT professional. I also didn’t feel like I learned anything and was just thrown into a drill.

Ehh, wouldn’t recommend, more so for safety. I went here for a class about a month ago & it was me a purple belt & the instructor. Literally the first thing I see when I get on the mat is a cockroach crawling in the area we were about to drill at. The 2nd thing I felt was off was we got right into drilling (no warm up) which was cool, but I didn’t know a lick of jiu jitsu, so setting up an armbar was foreign to me, with very little explanation. I moved down from PA searching for a home gym. Mark and I connected right away. He’s a great coach and my jiu jitsu has improved 10 fold due to the format of his class and straight forward approach. Great atmosphere with tough guys that are there to get better. I wouldn’t trade my time at Chuva for any other gym. If you want to train to improve and meet some great folks, give the gym a visit! I treasure all the great humans i’ve met that are actively training at Chuva.

I attended a free trial beginner session and left early. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially not a beginner. This was not a professional, structured, respectful, or beginner-friendly learning environment. The session took place in the instructor’s garage at his house. After the previous students left, it was just me and the instructor. No other students were present for the beginner class, and there were no cameras or witnesses. I joined through a promotional offer that included a one-month membership, which provided excellent value. Mark is a solid teacher. His focus on strategy and the trial-and-error learning process made for a well-rounded experience. The daily BJJ journal was a particularly helpful tool, allowing me to get into the right mindset before class. Overall, it was a great experience, especially for a beginner.
