As hard as it is to recommend a pediatric emergency department, I highly recommend this one. Every interaction was positive and supportive - I never felt crazy for bringing my child in. It was quick and is a beautiful facility. Xander was our nurse and he was incredible - but honestly every interaction was great.
My experience at CHOP was traumatic and discriminatory. I was detained against my will after giving birth and treated with disrespect and bias. Staff ignored my informed choices, withheld paperwork for hours, and threatened CPS involvement even though my baby was healthy and stable. All for money - I am pursuing formal complaints with state and federal agencies regarding how I was treated. Families deserve compassionate, respectful care — not coercion or intimidation.
The worst experience. Took my son in and was seen immediately for triage. Everyone was very nice, kind, and efficient. Waited in the waiting room for over an hour to be taken back to a room. We saw the nurse one time (she was very nice and good with my son).... beyond that.... avoid this ER. Just make the drive to Philly. We were never seen by a doctor in over 4 hours and we left. We brought our 10-year-old son to the ER around 10 PM because he was complaining of a severe headache, describing it as feeling like someone was banging on his head. He plays tackle football and never complains of headaches, so this was very concerning. After having his vital signs taken, we waited in the lobby for four hours before being brought to a room—only to wait another hour with no update.
