They don't answer there phone. And let is know to call at 8am for scheduling an appointment when they don't answer there phone. My son was seen at pediatric for a concerning matter and instead they sent us to call dermatologist. I was there for about 9 hrs. In the E.R. I was released after a CT found a Pulmonary Embolism (P.E.), with blood thinners. I drove home at night, by myself, an hour, with a pulmonary embolism. Asked to return the following Monday with an appt. to FU with another Doctor I'd never met and was off at the time of my appt. It was BAD all the way around. CONCLUSION: Drive to any other hospital off the Rez, to seek any type of medical attention.
It's a very small hospital to serve the Navajo nation. I enjoyed the people the area and would love to return it anytime.
No place is perfect, but I've found the staff here very helpful and compassionate. My family moved to Chinle to work with the Navajo Nation's people and the main reason we picked the I.H.S. here was because we wanted to get our own medical care where she works instead of traveling 2+ hours. The vast majority of the staff here are not Indigenous and most are here because they really want to be here. There will always be haters and no person or system is perfect, but for me I.H.S. I called urgent care for any matters but what they told me was irrelevant. At the end, she just said “mmhmm, bye”. Really? Whoever works at the front desk, you’re supposed to help our Navajo People. That’s why your position there. Especially some of these international and domestic nurses. I saw a sign at of the desk stating to respect the employees there, but some of them just have bad attitudes toward us when we are nice to them.
