Attended a banquet with many guests (~$20-40/person): multiple dishes of protein, fresh vegetables, & a variety of aromatic spices cooked to perfection (with any dietary sensitivities accommodated in kind, i.e. without loss of generality/enjoyment). Food was delicious, staff was nimble, and the ambiance was tight-knit.
Phony Prices Advertised Outside & On Carry Out Menus – First of all, I had consistently found the food and service at China Village to be mediocre at best. The only reason I ever returned at all is that it is within easy walking distance of where I live in Albany or I had to be out doing errrands nearby & needed to eat right away. Great food! – This got to be the best Chinese restaurant in the East Bay. The spices are fantastic and if you like Northern Chinese food this is the place to go to. The quantities are large and we usually take food home. The price is right for a Chinese restaurant. The service is usually good, but in the weekends it does get busy and on Holidays it sometimes gets hectic!
Avoid this place! The service is HORRIBLE! – Avoid this place at all costs. The service was HORRENDOUS and the employees are the rudest people I've encountered in a restaurant setting. Our food took forever to get to our table and it was the wrong stuff when it came! And everyone was rude when we told them of the problems. The only person who knows what he's doing is the busboy. He's the only person who is worth interacting with in the whole place. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!!
My Favorite Szechaun Don't let the lack of Chinese people fool you - this place has great Chinese food. I love the appetizer dishes. I always get rice when i get my appetizers - otherwise I can't handle the spiciness of the food. My favorite dishes are the chicken appetizer and the beef tendons. Both are super spicy. I was not impressed with the unspicy food.
