Indian food This is a really good restaurant. The food is delicious. However, they don't have any soups on the menu which takes off a star, and the decor isn't too nice. It's more a cafe than a restaurant.
All about the food. I've only eaten here for lunch, but have enjoyed the food every time. Definitely no ambience, it's very sterile and cafeteria-like, but great authentic-feeling Indian food, including some things you don't often see like gobi manchurian or other Sino-Indian dishes.
Simply the best... Superb Iam a great food lover. I have never taster Indian Food, esp the south indian food there. Their northern curries and Tandoor and 2nd to none. Must visit.. a bit far from portland downtown,.. but i think its worth the ride..! I didnt know that Oregonian rated them the top dining indian cuisine until i stumbled on the writeup accidently. Chennai Masala is savory Here's what you need to know about Chennai Masala. The food is really, really good. But if you're looking for a cozy intimate dinner out... there is no ambiance here at all. This is why we always go there for take-out. I love the lamb so I usually order the lamb vindaloo. The sauce is savory on a bed of rice. Get a side of nan bread and a mango lassi to drink. Try the dosa as an appetizer for sharing. Life is good. :)
Authentic my foot!! I've been to India and I can cook better fare myself. Bland, practically tasteless buffet and no lamb dishes available, at least a lunch. I was deeply disappointed, especially as we were taking a business associate for lunch both times. We will NOT be returning.
Quite an authentic restaurant – This is a restaurant that I frequent not just because of it's proximity to where I live, but also as this is the most authentic south indian restaurant in town. The 3 items that I order most frequently and never get tired of are: Idli-sambar, Onion Rava masala dosa, Tandoori Platter sampler. Spicier than Swagath! – We go here for the lunch buffet every once in a while. While Swagath has a pretty good lunch buffet too, Chennai Masala is better in my opinion because the food is spicier. Indian food is supposed to be spicy and Chennai Masala does a good job.
South Indian eatery turns a strip mall into a foodie haven. – Savvy urbanites make the trek to join cubicle dwellers and Intel techies for traditional Indian meals at this casual joint. The only place for Masala Dosa in Oregon – So far this place has the best Indian food we have found on Portland. It is about ten times less spicy than the real stuff but my wife and I have adjusted our tastes buds down, heat wise, and it is fine. The masala dosa is the real thing (it is not a spicy dish to begin with anyway) and Chennai Masala the only place in Oregon that does serve the real deal. The problem is the location.
