The Charcoal Pit Tradition dates back to September 1956 when it first opened its doors. The “Pit” - referred to by loyal customers, became such an instant success that only after three months from the grand opening, it was decided to build more room for its long line of hungry customers. If your really hungry I really dont know how this place is still around after all this time. For the last 30 years I have tried the food there and each time not pleased. One its always under cooked service is always slow. Last time we went there we sat for 20 minuites on a waiter that never showed up so we just left. There is a lot better burger places around.
Young crowd. The first of the Wilmington Charcoal Pits, this is, and continues to be, a big hangout for local highschoolers. Known for the "kitchen sink" where every flavor of ice cream is dumped into one bowl with 20 spoons, this place reminds you of a well worn diner -- sticky tables and all. For a smoother crowd, try the sister site on Kirkwood Highway where plasma tv's allow you to watch any game you want, and the bar is comfortable and hopping.
dirti-ish maybe its the intentional style of the restaurant, but I feel that this place was dirty and that changed my mind about the sanitariness of the food. Overall pretty good though
Good Eats The food here was good and the prices reasonable. One the day of my visit the service at the takeout was a little slow. Friendliness of the server made up for the slow service.
