If you have sickle cell disease, the emergency department is wonderful for a quicker check-in and 6/10 care. However, if you are hospitalized, the belligerent and rude night nurses will make your life miserable. They are completely incompetent and argued with me about the treatment protocol set by the doctor. I would either spend the night with worsening pain and have the day doctor apologize profusely or cause a scene so the charge nurse could come and clarify things with them. They took me in right away and did all sorts of blood tests and x-rays. Don't listen to the negative comments. If you have an emergency they will deal with it!
