I had my 2 year old son up there on Monday 11/08/2025 for an appointment at 10:15am, we seen the triage nurse super quick but we then waited 3 hours to be seen by the doctor for him to tell us it was just a virus and use at home remedies. My son was still extremely unwell on Thursday 14/08/2025 so we went to his regular GP and he got diagnosed with croup. Very disappointing because this service would be very helpful when we can’t get in to see the regular GP but I don’t see us returning anytime soon due to this situation.
I have just picked up a script for drops as I have a perforated ear drum and had to pay $44 as it was a private script. These drops are covered by PBS and would have costed me $10. I was lucky I could afford them otherwise I would have just gone without and could have suffered long term consequences. I live in Cessnock, not Bondi Sydney! Incredibly disappointed with Dr Sione Akauola but the Triage nurse and receptionist were lovely.
Usually only 1 doctor available, few times I've come and there hasn't been a doctor on so I had to see one of the GP at the practice connected to the urgent care. Usually have to wait upwards of 3 hours. Hopefully they get more funding to have some extra doctors available as there is usually 10+ people waiting at most times.
After being left in the waiting room at CDH, I took my mum home and rang her GP rooms who were booked out. The receptionist advised me to attend Cessnock's Medicare urgent treatment clinic. The triage staff was quick to act and got Vicky urgently. It took Vicky less than 3 seconds to identify that my mother was septic and should be in hospital. As for our previous experience, the triage nurse and the ambulance officer failed to identify sepsis in a critically ill person.
Whilst visited my home town recently from interstate I found it difficult to get my child into see a GP. I took him to the Cessnock Medicare Urgent Clinic and found the service and care to be excellent. I would highly reccomend this public facility. Thank you.
