Took my Evinrude outboard motor in to have oil changed as it had been sitting awhile in my garage. This was a newer motor with only about 30 hours on it. Owner recommended a new impeller and oil change so we agreed to service. Picked up motor about a week later assuming we were ready to go? Took out for a test on lake but couldn’t seem to work shift lever? Turns out shifter cable wasn’t even attached, hole threads totally stripped and just lucky I managed to get back to dock.
