I used to be the person telling the contractors this company couldn't pay them it was my job to put them off but I kept the communications open with the contractors and they appreciated it even though they weren't going to get paid I let them know that I was aware of what was due to them. My boss quit on me I got her to come back 2 weeks later she let me go.
