They have lost it – The Caveman Kitchen used to be very good when the original owner was still alive. They have lost the technique he had for ribs. I bought a pound of ribs today and they were the toughest I have had anywhere. I could not eat them, and threw them away. Awful. This is so sad. The Caveman used to be the best little rib joint in Kent. Those days are over. I have never had such lousy ribs, and the price was not cheap. Fool me once..shame on you. Fool me twice....well...you won't fool me twice.
CAVE MAN KITCHENS This has been around for many year. When the old man owned it, he gave you tastes of everything and you got alot of great food for the money. I would take turkey,salmon or trout there to get it smoked. Then he died and service and food went down hill. I can say more about it but won't cause I figured it was a transition period. restaurant my office is just 3 blocks from the cave man. we orer takeout at least 2 times a month. my favorite is pork ribs. they use a huge fire pit and smoke the meat over night. they are so busy they have to smoke every day.
Get The Beans – I have never been to Caveman Kitchens - too far away, but my son has, occasionally, brought some baked beans home to me. I have been halfway around the world and have never tasted better baked beans. Large chunks of bacon and the sauce is great. I just wish there was one of those restaurants here in Tacoma.
Bring your salmon here... – My family has brought their fresh caught salmon to Caveman since the 70s! You can't beat Caveman's smoking... YUM. It's been many years since I've personally been there, but for anyone who has grown up in Western Washington and has many many generations of family in Western Washington we know this is truely a local staple. (All of you 21st century transplants not from Western Washington, go back home for your BBQ fixins, this place is for smokin'!)
Great food! Great Sauce! Great Sides! Can't wait for more!! – This place is a little rough around the edges but has all the fixin's for great eats! They make everything from scratch and by hand so this is some down home cookin'! Smoked Meats – We ordered 37.5 lbs of smoked turkey and ham for my husbands employees for Thanksgiving and it was fantastic! We kept our fingers crossed because if the meat wasn't good, there was going to be alot of people very angry with us. Didn't order any sides so I can't say what those taste like but the meat was great. Overall, excellent smokiness - extremely reasonable - will be ordering meat for Thanksgiving again next year.
Good Chicken, not soo good everything else – They catered a work party recently and most were not too impressed(especially those who eat and cook BBQ). The ribs were tender with lots of meat but their sauce was just....wrong. Didn't taste like BBQ sauce. Tasted more like ketchup with spices. Their Baked Beans were runny and lacked any real flavor, especially compared to other BBQ places like The Generals in Kent. Way over rated – I've been to the caveman twice for lunch in the past year becuase coworkers rave about how good it is. I got the beef sandwich and dragon wheels both times. Almost no meat on my sandwich, the little meat there was bland, the barbeque sauce is tasteless, and even though the dragon wheels are good - they are overpriced for the little food you get. I just don't understand how anyone can consider this a good barbeque place. Trust me, go somewhere else for lunch.
