Catalina Island falls below expectations especially because of the below average golf cart rentals. The golf carts are the only way to explore avalon, they are slow, noisy, and only take you to places you can easily walk to. It's better to walk and enjoy the scenery than waste your money for 2 hours in a tar glob. Don't waste your money and save your dollars for some champagne from Vons (spoiler alert the island upcharges you an arm, a leg, and whole body for basic food and drink. Sub par carts. Slower than a snail. Limited to very small space of use. Better to walk between the different parts of the available space. The whole island is limited and doesn't allow for exploration, come with a plan. Faster, better stronger.
