What I brought in broken jewelry would have a melt value of around 150-160 they offered me $20 and the guy working the counter wasn’t even allowed to give me a price he had to call someone else who was clueless as to details of the transaction he wasn’t even at the store . I can't say I blame him for the practice, because I'm sure it is how this industry has to make money, but I was in a rush, didn't act like I knew anything and just hoped for a fair offer right off the bat. They offered me $200 for gold bars with a melt value of $475 because they thought I was a novice. Sadly, blindly trusting the dealer to offer you a fair amount from the start isn't likely to go your way.
