About this business
Tickets are $3 per ride, or $25 for a 10-punch card. A magical menagerie of 35 rideable, hand-carved animals on a restored 1910 carousel, with music provided by a 1913 Wurlitzer band organ. The carvings were created by Nederland resident Scott Harrison, a former U.S. Marine who came up with the idea of the carousel while serving in the Vietnam War. I just happen to love carousels .. so, maybe a tiny bit of bias here. The Carousel of Happiness lives up to all my expectations ... from the wonderfully hand carved animals ... both jumpers and standers ... to the great old tinney and thumping musical instruments. Nostalgia for adults and delightful new adventure for kids. Its salute to Veterans makes me incredibly proud.
The story behind this beautiful piece of craftsmanship is touching. A Vietnam Vet built the piece for people to enjoy just so his mind would be at peace from the rigorous of combat. A must-see experience.
Just watched the story of this Vietnam Marine who carved the animals and rebuilt the carousel and got his mind and soul back that was taken from him while serving in Vietnam. What a great story. I'll be sharing this guy's story with our Veteran members at VFW POST 7310, GROSSE ILE MICHIGAN.
