In July 1952 Carlsbad, Calif., became an incorporated city and hired its first chief of police. The chief was the only member of the department and had a desk at the State Parks and Recreations Department. The Carlsbad Police Department has grown to a total of nearly 150 personnel that includes more than 100 sworn officers and less than 40 non-sworn employees. As a Sheriff Dept Volunteer, I have met a few of these officers and am impressed with the level of professionalism they have. They have helped us out on some events and are among the best in the entire county and country. Always a pleasure to meet all the men and women in this department.
