GEICO is a complete scam. I moved from LA to NC right after renewing my 6 month policy, paid in full. When I made the change, GEICO refunded me the difference, they did the math and gave me whatever they calculated back. Fast forward a couple months and they come back saying that I owe them more money or my policy will be “cancelled”. I call in and they made up some weird explanation about how the policy lapsed and they had to recalculate - keep in mind I paid ~$1200 and the cost went down to $220 for the same policy. I switched to State Farm in October 2023 and State Farm notified them of the transfer. GEICO did not contact me and instead ignored the transfer for months until I caught the autopay still going off. Called them to cancel and they admitted they received my cancelation via email but there was a note in my file to not cancel because my wife and I had two policies that were merging in to one, but again they never tried to call they just kept charging.
