Capt. Bill’s Waterfront Restaurant is the oldest restaurant in Carteret County. The entire restaurant sits on pilings out over the beautiful waters of Bogue Sound. It began on the corner of Arendell and Ninth Streets in 1938 by Mr. Headen Ballou (later known as Capt. Bill) and was known as The Atlantic Cafe. One year later, he moved his restaurant down the street to the block between 7th and 8th Streets (still on Arendell Street) and reopened his restaurant naming it the Morehead Café.

Great seafood Great seafood and a great view. Try the lemon pie it is the absolute best anywhere. Try their shrimp alfredo or the broiled flounder stuffed with crabmeat. We had the crab legs and there were really good.
Capt Bill's Waterfront Rstrnt is not worth wasting your time or money!!!! Horrible, horrible, horrible food. Did I mention horrible? This is my very first review of a restaurant but I felt that the public needed to know our experience. First, we waited at least ten minutes to be seated in what was pretty much a vacant restaurant. The sweet waitress who took pity on us once we were seated made the comment that ??no one assigned us a number so she decided to wait on us so we didn??t just have to sit there!? I can??t say enough... read more
Just okay The last time we ate here I was disappointed. The food was just okay. We'd have been better off at the neighboring restaurant, Sanitary Fish Market. Prices are reasonable for what you get, but the food is hit or miss. We've had both good and just okay experiences in the past, too.
good seafood Have gone to this restaurant since I was a child. It was sad when it burned, but so thrilled when they re-built and re-opened. Some of the best seafood around. Been established for years on the waterfront. Good seafood cooks how you'd like it. Good staff.
A Keeper! We have been visiting Capt Bills ever since I can remember! Every trip to the outer banks is enhanced by a dinner at this place! Yummy food, friendly service and authentic, Southern style seafood....shrimp, clams, crabs, fresh flounder...yumm!
