My girlfriends car unexpectedly died. We found a car here that we liked and put down a deposit. The bank would only finance half of what they were asking for the car- this was expected due to its age, but I was able to finance the rest of the money against my 401k. I advised the owner of this and he told me the deposit would hold the car for 3-4 days, which was perfect because I would not receive the funds for 2 days.
