For half a century, and three generations of the Canlis family, this gorgeous restaurant has presided on a hill over Lake Union. It beckons the well-off, those looking for a romantic evening, or anyone celebrating a special event. The restaurant has won awards too numerous to list, and a renovation has made it all the better. The cuisine is based on fresh ingredients, with salmon, scallops and Dungeness crab topping the menu. Vegetables are locally grown, as are the wide array of fruits used in each beautifully presented dis... read more

Not spectacular – The food at Canlis was just OK. That's not acceptable when you are paying over ~$100 per person for dinner. Yes, the view was amazing, the piano player was great, ambience was fantastic...but when it comes down to it, the food is really what matters to me. You can have all the components of a great restaurant, but without great food, it's just not worth it. The foi gras was cold and overcooked, the Peter Canlis Prawns were too salty, and the fish entree (halibut) should have been served with a starch instea... read more
Over hyped but still a good meal – I think it's best i preface this review by saying I'm more of a casual fella. Dressing up for me involves some khaki's and a polo shirt. Canlis is not the place for you if you can't seem to figure out how a sports jacket makes a steak taste better. Their wine steward/selection was simply unmatched from my experience locally. But the wagyu was acceptable, seasoning was absent, texture was good, nothing to write home about. My friends filet mignon had a chunk of gristle in the middle. Service... read more
For more than 50 years, this upscale Seattle legend has been pampering locals with inventive Northwest cuisine and flawless service. – The Scene Congregated stones mix with branches and pierce the walls, creating a dramatic interior effect. The beautifully appointed atrium gives way to a display of natural light as Lake Union nearly spills into the dining room. Splurging couples will get the exceptional attention they hope for; the first-class staff delivers consistent, quality service. The Food Straightforward starters are ... read more
Utter Disapointment – iserable experience. We made reservations a month in advanceparty of ten for a special birthday. Canlis overbooked and kept us waiting for 2 solid hours. Granted, they did offer free appetizers and drinks, but it completely spoiled our other plans for the evening. Further, once we were seated the service was horribly slow and the food was just mediocre (compared to The Met or Mortons).
disappointing...... – I was interested to eat in Canlis because of the reviews that I read in this site. I was very looking forward to eat the Wagyu tenderloin, however the taste is not like the kobe-beef I had before. I did some research & I found that Wagyu beef is supposed to be a kobe-beef but the fact is it isn't what I'm expecting, the tenderness is comparable to others meat, it's not superior where it should be. However the service is pretty good, I reserved the cache room it was not that spectacular, I would prefer t... read more
Fantastic! – We chose to celebrate our anniversary here and didn't regret it! The view was amazing as was the beauty of the restaurant itself. The service was excellent and didn't miss a beat within the whole two hours. Since it is extremely expensive, I heard the food wasn't worth "that" much, but we had the steak and lamb and it was so good! Our server even brought us dessert for the anniversary when we didn't order any and that was very generous and good as well. All in all, it was the perfect night for our anniversary. I... read more
A Memorable Night – My husband and I love Canalis for special occassions. The food is fantastic! All of their seafood dishes are wonderful. The chocolate lava cake is to die for. The drinks and wine are expensive, but they do have a good selection. The main dining room is romantic, but the private dining room "the cashe" is the ultimate in romance. My husband actually proposed to me there.
WOW – Took my girl there after the prom - 44 years ago. It was the most memorable dining experience of my life. I can hardly wait to get back; I had supposed it was long gone. Just goes to show that quality lasts! "Odd Hwy 99 access"? When I was there, 99 was the main drag, and Canlis was right there with easy access. You dont move a legend to accommodate the DOT.
Don't listen to the naysayers – I have noticed whenever there is a truly fine business there will be some bogus negative reviews (assumably from competitors). I have eaten at the best restaurants in Boston, NY, Chicago, SF and Seattle. Here was my experience w/ Canlis - FANTASTIC in every way. They have made an art form of service and the food does not disappoint either for the price. If you need to impress someone - someone that has money and knows class - this is a sure bet. Just go to Canlis
