Best ghost town west of the Mississippi!
Such a fun place to visit! The staff are knowledgeable & very friendly. Fun tours to go on but you can also do a lot of exploring on your own as well.
Simple things can be done to improve the look and feel of the town. Its really hard to feel like you are in a genuine old west setting when there are extension cords and window a/c units everywhere. The mannequins looked so poorly maintained (I'm not expecting Disney or Knott's standards but they were rough). Lastly, we had a employee come out of an office (twice) while we were waiting to enter the mystery shack. A lot family fun exploring a time forgotten.
Take the train ride, go through Maggie's Mine, and explore the town and surrounding area. There is a lot of walking involved, but it is also wheel chair accessible. I loved the Bath House: great bath salts to buy. There is so many things to see, it will take all day, in my opinion, to see and experience all that Calico has to offer. Great facility and staff. Except for the young man doing the Patrol on Dec 30th, evening. He was incredibly rude and unprofessional in informing our group tht it was time to turn our music down. aside from this unfortunate incident, we really love the location, ease of access from the highway, and the Ghost Town is awesome, as is the off roading areas!
