Ambiance Great LOVE the decor and atmosphere, especially sitting outside in late spring. Love this place, you just have to go for the ambiance. Food is so-so. Its worth a visit.
Unique Place! – I haven't been here for a little while, but I have to say if you want something different and unique, try Venice. The age range of the crowd is varied, so its a place anyone can go any feel comfortable. Try upstairs and downstairs!
Does this place pay taxes? – hermitatpeace, thank you for your comment. I believe it is helpful. I got very disappointed once, at the beginning of July 2010, when I went to Venice cafe with at least 4 friends of mine and we have been surprised by a 5$ entrance fee. Then I realized that the man asking for a fee at the entrance door didn't release any receipt, in fact he didn't have a cash and he would only accept a payment in cash. Furthermore, I noticed that they didn't bring receipts for purchases either. How can they pay a... read more
bad door manners – I always take out of town friends to Venice - sometimes we stay, sometimes we move around and check out different spaots -I went one Sat eve with 4 friends eager to show them Venice. I told the doorman we were just planning on one drink, but if we stay longer HAPPY to pay door fee. He told us "pay fee regardless", so we left. Cheated themselves out of 4 drink purchases and possible door fees and Im hesitant to return...
The Best Bar in Town – The Venice is absolutely the most interesting place I have ever been. The decor is amazing, the whole place is a work of art. If you haven't been here you really need to go!!

most original music, poetry, open mic in St. Louis, great bar, friendly people – For me, by far, Venice Cafe always has been and still is the best spot in St. Louis. I shouldn't have to say more but I will explain why. 20 years ago, I used to read poetry there, and it was the only decent or even excellent place to read poetry in St. Louis. Now, it still has the best open mic in St. Louis by super far, but now the musicians are outstanding -with original accoustic music by excellent guitarists and singers including members of... read more
Artsy decor, diverse live acts and one of the best patios in St. Louis. – In Short Venice is the visionary work of two artists with a found-art philosophy toward decor. Mosaics cover the whole space; paintings, mannequins and other objects hang on the walls; found sculptures pepper the rooms. The music booking follows a similar approach: If it sounds good, host it. Western swing, blues, country and rock are all covered on any given night. A Caribbean-themed menu (think jerk chicken) and outdoor patio add to the diverse atmos... read more
A must to experience! – Though it's small and crowded, the Venice is a must to experience. If you haven't got enough friends, just visit the Venice and step on the toes of some new friends. Beautiful outdoor garden where the music of the bands can waft out the open door. And ya gotta love the "World's Most Dangerous Poet."
